Acne Treatment: How To Treat Baby Acne

Ever heard of baby acne? It seems strange but is true that your baby may develop baby acne. In fact around 20-30% new born babies have a tendency to develop baby acne. New born child gets the infection through placenta. They are either born with it or develop it within a few weeks of birth. Male baby is usually more affected by baby acne than female baby.

Hormones pass from the mother on to the baby and stimulate the oil glands of baby’s skin causing baby acne. It is quite common incidence therefore you should not worry about it at all. However some precautions must be taken in order to stop them from worsening.
Your baby starts showing signs of discomfort and irritation as soon as acne starts developing. Make sure that clothes and towels of baby are not washed using harsh chemicals. The chemical particles that are left on the clothes, cause more irritation when it comes in contact with acne. Just to make sure acne  is not aggravated use very loose and soft cloth for your baby.
Make sure that you use plain water to wash acne infected area. Use mild soap only if you must. Try to avoid soaps as much as possible until the acne is cured. Your baby does not need any moisturizer at all. Do not use moisturizer if the child has acne.
Usually baby acne keep appearing and disappearing throughout the breastfeeding period. As the baby cannot product hormones on its own, it takes it from the breast milk. As soon as breast feeding is over i.e. around 6 months baby acne disappears on its own.
No need to go for any treatment unless it is very severe which happens if you keep using chemical based soaps and lotions. Moreover contrary to the common belief child with baby acne will not necessarily develop acne during teenage
